Old Charter Oak Finest Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Old Charter Oak Finest Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a limited release from Buffalo Trace that takes the Old Charter name — originally introduced in 1874 by Adam and Ben Chapeze in honour of one of America's most famous white oak trees — and uses it to showcase the central role of the oak barrel in shaping bourbon character. The Finest Oak expression is aged patiently at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, from barrels selected specifically for their wood profile.
On the palate, Finest Oak leads with warm caramel, toffee, and vanilla, layering in seasoned oak, light tobacco, leather, and a soft peppery spice. The finish is long and dry, carrying the wood influence all the way through without tipping over-oaked — a balance that reflects the care Buffalo Trace takes in barrel selection. It drinks beautifully neat in a Glencairn, holds up over a large cube, and makes a deeply layered Old Fashioned when you want oak complexity to anchor the drink.
The broader Old Charter Oak series explores how different oak varietals influence bourbon maturation, making this a natural bottle for collectors interested in barrel provenance. If you already own Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, or Weller, Finest Oak adds a distinct voice to the Buffalo Trace shelf. Limited annual releases — buy when available.
