Lanson Champagne Brut Blanc De Blancs Clos Lanson 2007
Clos Lanson 2007: a single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs from a walled one-hectare clos in the heart of Reims.
Clos Lanson is the only vineyard left inside the historic walls of Reims, a single hectare of Chardonnay on pure chalk beside the Lanson cellars, within sight of the cathedral. It is the only Lanson parcel fermented in barrel, and it is bottled on its own only in the best years. The 2007 was just the second release after the inaugural 2006: 100% Chardonnay aged more than eight years on its lees, disgorged in July 2016 with only 3 grams per litre dosage, and limited to 7,994 bottles. William Kelley of Wine Advocate (94+ points) finds dried white flowers, citrus oil, toasted brioche, oyster shell and smoke, calling it "quite a tightly knit, tensile wine" with a long future ahead. He suggests drinking it from 2020 to 2040. 12.5% ABV, 750ml.
