Kaiyo The Unicorn 10 Year Whisky is an extraordinary fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and bourbon tradition, delivering a magical whiskey experience that highlights the best of both worlds. Initially matured for five years in the rare and highly sought-after Japanese Mizunara Oak, this whisky is then transferred to exceptionally rare bourbon barrels for an additional five years. The result is a rich and complex spirit that marries the subtle nuances of Japanese whisky with the bold flavors of bourbon.
Crafted from Japanese distillate made of malted barley, Kaiyo Whisky is renowned for its meticulous aging process. The use of Japanese Mizunara Oak, known for its delicate wood grain and unique flavor profile, adds a layer of complexity that is further enhanced by the secondary maturation in bourbon barrels. Each bespoke barrel is hand-selected and crafted by the Ariake Cooperage, ensuring the highest quality wood is used.
The name "Kaiyo" means "ocean," reflecting the whisky’s journey through the seas from Osaka, Japan, which lasts up to three months. This sea voyage, with its varying conditions of motion, temperature, weather, and air pressure, contributes to the whisky's distinct aging process, making each batch truly unique.
