How one act of conviction in 1975 created one of the most celebrated bourbons in American history
In 1975, American bourbon was in freefall. Dark spirits had fallen out of fashion, distilleries were cutting prices and the very idea of premium bourbon had been all but abandoned. Into that moment stepped a visionary master distiller with a Distinguished Flying Cross to his name and an unshakeable belief that bourbon deserved better. His answer was Eagle Rare — a ten-year aged Kentucky straight bourbon released at a time when the industry had stopped asking what whiskey could be and started asking only what it could sell. It was an act of courage dressed as a bottle of bourbon.
That conviction proved right. Eagle Rare not only survived the industry's most difficult years — it helped define what bourbon could become, proving that age, patience and an uncompromising standard were not obstacles to commercial success but the very foundation of it.
