Chateau Palmer Margaux 2020
Château Palmer 2020, the celebrated Margaux Third Growth. 94 points, Wine Spectator.
Château Palmer 2020 is 48% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot from the estate's biodynamically farmed gravel plateau in Cantenac. Budburst came nearly two weeks early, a wet spring brought heavy mildew pressure, and August heatwaves were broken by thunderstorms that swelled the Merlot while the Cabernet stayed small. Harvest ran from September 15 to 29 at a low yield of about 31 hectoliters per hectare, and the estate rates it on par with 2018 for structure, closing the celebrated 2018, 2019 and 2020 trio. The wine spent a year in 50 to 60% new barrels before moving to foudre. Jeb Dunnuck (97 points) calls it "easily one of the most opulent, sexiest wines from the Médoc," and advises seven to eight years of bottle age, with 40 or more years of life. Wine Spectator suggests drinking it from 2029 through 2039. 13.0% ABV, 750ml.
