Chateau Margaux Margaux 2017
Château Margaux 2017, First Growth Bordeaux. 95 points, Wine Spectator.
Château Margaux is one of the four original First Growths of 1855, and its 2017 Grand Vin is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The year tested the estate: an April frost touched 10% of its red vines, and September rain followed a warm, dry summer, so the team waited for the sun to return and picked the reds between September 12 and October 3. A strict selection sent only 37% of the harvest into the Grand Vin. Lisa Perrotti-Brown of Wine Advocate (98 points) wrote that "the elegance and finesse on the palate is simply bedazzling," praising its soft, velvety texture and long, perfumed finish. Jeb Dunnuck (98 points) advised seven to eight years of bottle age and expects it to cruise for 20 to 25 years in a cold cellar. 13.5% ABV, 750ml.
