Tres Tribus Mezcal Tobala
From the remote, pine-shrouded highlands of Oaxaca, Tres Tribus Mezcal Tobalá is a reverent expression of heritage, craftsmanship, and wild agave. Handcrafted by fifth-generation mezcalero Juan Antonio Coronel in San Francisco Nuxaño, this small-batch mezcal honors the traditions of his Zapotec and Mixtec lineage.
Made from Tobalá agave, a rare and compact wild species known for its rich concentration of sugars and unique complexity, the hearts are slow-cooked underground for up to a week over Encino oak, then hand-mashed with wooden mallets—a true labor of love. Fermented in subterranean cement amphoras with volcanic spring water and native yeast, the result is a spirit of intense character, depth, and natural mystique. Double distilled in copper and bottled unaged, it captures the essence of its rugged origins.
The label depicts Balam, the jaguar, guardian and ruler of Xibalba, the Mayan underworld—symbolizing strength, mystery, and the wild soul of this mezcal.
