The Macallan 25 Year Old Sherry Oak, 2026 Release is the newest annual bottling of the 25-year-old in The Macallan's Sherry Oak Collection. It spends a quarter century in sherry-seasoned oak casks, predominantly European oak, and is bottled at 43% ABV with its natural colour.

The 2026 release comes in a new look: a red capsule and a red-trimmed label on the bottle, presented in a pale oak box with a decorative border marked "Sherry Oak Collection, 2026 Release."

The Macallan frames the 2026 profile around raisins, crystallised ginger and rich oak: layers of dried fruit, warming spice and oak built over 25 years in sherry wood. Pour it neat in a Glencairn or copita glass, add a drop of water if you like, and give it a few minutes to open up.

The Macallan has distilled on the Easter Elchies estate in Speyside since 1824, and sherry-cask maturation remains the house signature. Pair it with The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak and 12 Year Old Sherry Oak for a full Sherry Oak flight.

Why Gifted Pour recommends it

A quarter-century in hand-picked sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez gives this Speyside single malt the kind of depth that suits a truly significant moment. It is a gift for the person whose milestone deserves ceremony: a retirement, a landmark birthday, a partnership made official, or a mentor you want to thank properly. The nose opens with sultanas, polished wood and bright orange peel. The palate is oily and coating, layering fig, raisin, clove and toasted almond over dark chocolate and Christmas cake. The finish lingers long and warm, with bitter chocolate and a final whisper of wood smoke. Drawn from The Macallan's flagship Sherry Oak range and distilled at Easter Elchies since 1824, it carries real heritage without needing to announce it. This is a whisky for slow evenings, poured neat and shared around a table of people who will linger over each sip. For a recipient who already loves the sherried house style, it makes a natural centerpiece for a tasting night with friends.

Pairs well with

  • Rich dark chocolate dessert — The whisky's own dark and bitter chocolate notes echo the dessert while its orange peel brightness lifts each bite.
  • Gourmet cheese with dried figs — The fig, raisin and toasted almond layers on the palate mirror the fruit and complement the cheese's savory richness.
  • Retirement or milestone celebration — A quarter-century of sherry-cask maturation makes a fitting toast to years of dedication, with a long, warm finish that invites lingering conversation.

Questions about this bottle

What does The Macallan 25 Year Old taste like?

It is rich and full-flavored. Expect sultanas, citrus zest and polished wood on the nose, then figs, raisins, orange, clove, toasted almond and dark chocolate on an oily, coating palate. The finish is long, warm and sherried, with bitter chocolate and a subtle touch of wood smoke.

How is this whisky matured?

It spends 25 years in hand-picked sherry-seasoned oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. That long sherry-wood maturation is central to The Macallan's identity and gives the whisky its deep amber color and its dried fruit, chocolate and oak spice character.

What is the best way to drink it?

The serving suggestion is to savor it neat in a Glencairn or whisky glass, taking your time to explore the citrus, dried fruit and wood smoke notes. It also works well as the centerpiece of a whisky tasting shared with friends.

How does it fit with other Macallan bottles?

The 25 Year Old belongs to The Macallan's Sherry Oak range, the distillery's flagship. For a full Macallan flight, it can be poured alongside the Macallan 18 Sherry Oak and the Macallan Double Cask 12, which makes for an engaging side-by-side tasting.

World's Most Honoured Whisky

Acclaimed by the World's Most Discerning Palates. Consistently. Without Exception.

Where heritage meets honour — recognition earned, never chased

The Macallan does not campaign for recognition. It does not need to. Across decades and continents, the world's most respected whisky critics, competition judges and connoisseurs have arrived at the same conclusion — independently, repeatedly, and without reservation.

Whisky Advocate awards the Double Cask 15 a score of 94 points, praising its impeccable balance of sherry sweetness and oak spice. Jim Murray's Whisky Bible rates it 95 points, calling out its sumptuous layers of citrus peel and butterscotch alongside historic oak depth. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition — one of the most competitive spirits events on the planet — has recognised The Macallan with gold, double gold and best-in-class distinctions year after year. And Whisky Magazine's Icons of Whisky has named The Macallan Distillery of the Year — not for a single release, but for an unbroken, generation-spanning philosophy of excellence.

These are not trophies for a shelf. They are proof — documented, repeated, undeniable — that when you hold a bottle of The Macallan, you are holding one of the very finest spirits ever made by human hands.

Awards find The Macallan. They always have. They always will.

Origin & Heritage

Born in 1824. Still Unsurpassed Two Centuries Later.

The Macallan Distillery, Easter Elchies Estate, Speyside, Scotland
In the spring of 1824, a Scottish farmer named Alexander Reid stood on a ridge above the River Spey and made a decision that would change the world of whisky forever. He planted barley in the fertile Speyside soil, filled small copper pot stills with pure highland water, and became one of the first distillers in Scotland to legally license his craft — naming his creation after the Gaelic phrase Magh Eallain, meaning "the fertile ground of St. Allan."

Two hundred years on, The Macallan has not moved. It still distills on the same 485-acre Easter Elchies estate, still draws water from the same bend in the River Spey, and still fills the same style of sherry-seasoned oak casks that Reid's successors pioneered. In an industry that constantly chases the next trend, The Macallan has done something far rarer and far harder — it has stayed true, season after season, decade after decade, century after century.

That is not stubbornness. That is mastery. And mastery, unlike fashion, only deepens with time.

The Macallan is not the world's most celebrated single malt because it is famous. It is famous because nothing else quite measures up.

The Legacy of Speyside Excellence — A Philosophy, Not Just a Process.
Six unbreakable principles. One uncompromising standard.

Nestled in the heart of Speyside — Scotland's most revered whisky-making region — The Macallan distillery has spent nearly two centuries doing one thing, and doing it with an obsessive, unwavering dedication that very few producers anywhere in the world can honestly claim to match.

Everything begins with The Macallan's famously small copper pot stills — among the most compact on Speyside — which maximise spirit contact with the copper surface, concentrating the signature rich, oily, fruit-forward character into every single drop. From those stills, only the finest 16% of each distillation run is selected for maturation. One of the most exacting cuts in the industry. Not the easiest 16% — the best 16%.

Then comes the cask — and this is where The Macallan truly separates itself from every other whisky on earth. No distillery invests more in sourcing, crafting and caring for its oak. The Macallan's exceptional sherry-seasoned casks account for up to 80% of the whisky's final flavour, aroma and entirely natural colour. Not a single drop of artificial colouring is ever added. What you see in the glass is the honest truth of the cask, the spirit and the time spent between them.

Every decision made at The Macallan — from the shape of its stills to the selection of its casks — is guided by one question: is this the very best we can do?

A Gift Worth Giving

Some Bottles Are Bought. This One Is Remembered. The gift that speaks before a single word is said

There is a particular kind of gift — rare, and instantly recognisable — that transcends the act of giving entirely. It does not simply mark an occasion. It becomes part of how that occasion is remembered. The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old is that kind of gift.

Whether you are celebrating a promotion earned through years of quiet excellence, honouring a friendship that deserves more than flowers, marking a retirement that closes one brilliant chapter and opens another, or simply telling someone that they matter — this is the bottle you reach for. Because a bottle of The Macallan says something that a card never quite can. It says: I chose the best, because you deserve nothing less.

Presented in its iconic packaging — artwork by the acclaimed designer David Carson, whose layered, hand-crafted aesthetic mirrors the complexity of the whisky within — The Macallan arrives not just as a drink, but as a complete experience. Beautifully considered. Effortlessly elegant. Impossible to forget.

Some gifts are forgotten by morning. A bottle of The Macallan is still being talked about years later — and so is the person who gave it.
