Pol Roger Champagne Brut Blanc De Blancs Cuvée De Réserve 2002
Pol Roger's vintage Blanc de Blancs from the great 2002 vintage.
This is 100% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs, Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Oger, fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic, riddled by hand in cellars 33 metres below Épernay, and aged nine years before release, with disgorgement in 2012. 2002 began with a cold winter and an ideal June for flowering; August rain raised fears of rot, but a sunny, dry September delivered an abundant crop of healthy, fully ripe fruit. Antonio Galloni, then at The Wine Advocate (94 points), called it "utterly brilliant today," and Josh Raynolds of Vinous (95 points) judged it "built for a long, graceful evolution." That evolution has now arrived: the Decanter World Wine Awards scored it 97 points in 2025, describing a beautiful mature Champagne that is "silky smooth, creamy and fine." It is ready to drink now. 12.5% ABV, 750ml.
