Octomore Edition 17.3 is the latest release in Bruichladdich's super-heavily peated single malt series, distilled and matured on the island of Islay, Scotland. This 5 Year Old expression continues the Octomore line's pursuit of extreme peat character, standing apart from Bruichladdich's other, unpeated releases as the distillery's most intensely smoky offering.
The nose opens with a wall of peat smoke layered over sweet, almost tropical fruit notes, while the palate delivers a push and pull between billowing smoke and underlying sweetness. The finish is long and smoldering, with charred wood and lingering ash giving way to a soft, sweet echo.
