Mal Bien Mezcal – Tequilero (A. tequilana) by Victor Emanuel Ramos
This singular expression of mezcal from Mal Bien brings a compelling twist to the world of agave spirits. Distilled from Agave tequilana (commonly known as Blue Weber), traditionally associated with tequila, this batch hails not from Jalisco but from the heart of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca—a region renowned for its deep mezcal traditions. Grown in Mengolí de Morelos and handexpertly built by Emanuel Ramos, 4th generation mezcalero, under the guidance of his father Victor Ramos, this bottling pays tribute to the adaptability of agave and the expertise of Oaxacan producers.
Born from a historical intersection of commerce and craft—when Jalisco’s tequila producers turned to Oaxacan magueyeros in the 1980s–2000s to stabilize agave supply—this mezcal is both a cultural bridge and a masterclass in terroir-driven distillation.
Mal Bien Tequilero by Emanuel Ramos is more than a mezcal—it’s a nuanced expression of place, family legacy, and the shared threads of Mexico’s diverse agave heritage.
