Mal Bien Ciro + Javier Barranca Azul Mezcal (Espadín)
Mal Bien Ciro + Javier Barranca Azul is a handdesigned with care artisanal mezcal that embodies the deep cultural and sensory boldness of Oaxaca. Created by master distillers Ciro and Javier Barranca in Santiago Matatlán—the "World Capital of Mezcal"—this expression is made from mature Espadín agaves, roasted in an earthen pit, crushed by tahona, naturally fermented, and double distilled in copper stills.
This small-batch production showcases a masterful balance between smokiness and the vibrant, herbal characteristics of Espadín. “Azul” in the name refers to the specific terroir and minerality found in the region where the agave was grown, influencing its distinctive taste.
Mal Bien Ciro + Javier Barranca Azul is an expression of place, passion, and tradition. With its bold Espadín character shaped by the hands of two generational mezcaleros, it’s an ideal bottle for those seeking a genuine taste of Oaxaca’s mezcal heritage—unfiltered, unforgettable, and deeply rooted in the land.
