A creamy, intensely flavored Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru from Maison Louis Latour: peach, apple tart, vanilla and butterscotch. 92 points, Wine Spectator.

Les Chalumeaux sits almost at the top of the Puligny-Montrachet hillside beside Les Truffières, with vines averaging 35 years old on limestone and scree soils facing southeast. Maison Louis Latour's 2023 is 100% Chardonnay, hand-picked, fermented in oak barrels with full malolactic and aged eight to ten months in medium-toast French oak from the house cooperage, 40% of it new. Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson reports that 2023 brought the hottest summer on record, yet the white Burgundies kept freshness and balance, and the harvest was larger than average. Only 150 cases of this wine were made, with 40 imported to the US. James Suckling (94 points) finds "real richness and intensity here, with dried apple, pineapple and crushed shells," calling it drinkable now but better from 2027. Wine Spectator (92 points) rates it to drink now through 2032. 13.5% ABV, 750ml.
