Chateau Margaux Margaux 2015
Château Margaux 2015, First Growth Bordeaux. 99 points, Wine Advocate.
The 2015 is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, and only 35% of the harvest made the grand vin, a record level of selection for a vintage of this quality. A cold winter gave way to a dry, sunny spring, a hot, dry June and July, timely rain in August and a September of warm days and cool nights, with the reds picked from September 18 to October 6. It was the last vintage made by Paul Pontallier, and it comes in a gold-etched black commemorative bottle in his honor. Jeb Dunnuck (100 points) says it is "as good a wine as I've ever tasted," and James Suckling also gave it 100 points. Dunnuck advised cellaring it at least a decade from release, then enjoying it over the following 40-plus years. 13.5% ABV, 750ml.
