Chateau Margaux Margaux 2005
Château Margaux 2005, First Growth Bordeaux from a legendary vintage.
Château Margaux is one of the four original First Growths of 1855, and its 2005 Grand Vin is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, raised in new oak. After a cold winter and a hot, sunny spring, the summer was exceptionally dry, with barely 100 millimeters of rain between May 1 and the start of picking on September 20, yet the Cabernet reached full ripeness without passing 13% alcohol. The estate calls it a truly great, pure Margaux vintage, more concentrated even than 2000. Robert Parker of Wine Advocate (98+ points) called it "unquestionably one of the all-time great wines made at Chateau Margaux," with an anticipated maturity of 2013 to 2050 and beyond, and Jeb Dunnuck says it is only now entering its prime, with another 30 years of drinking ahead. 13.0% ABV, 750ml.
