Chartreuse Green Liqueur
Green Chartreuse is a legendary French herbal liqueur distilled by Carthusian monks at the Chartreuse distillery in Voiron, France, from a recipe given to the order in 1605 and refined into its current form in 1764. Bottled at a formidable 55% ABV, it is one of the only liqueurs in the world whose colour is entirely natural — derived from the 130 plants, herbs, and flowers that make up its secret maceration. Only two monks alive at any time know the complete recipe.
On the palate, Green Chartreuse is intense, complex, and unmistakable: a wave of alpine herbs, mint, anise, cardamom, and wormwood, carried by honeyed sweetness and a long, warming herbal finish. It is powerful enough to hold its own in a cocktail and elegant enough to sip neat or over ice as a digestif. Bartenders have built modern classics like the Last Word and the Bijou on its structural backbone for over a century.
Green Chartreuse is aged in oak casks under the monks' supervision — a slow maturation that rounds the herbal intensity without dulling it. Supply is famously limited worldwide because production is tied to the abbey's output. Pair with our Yellow Chartreuse for a full-range tasting, or use in Last Word, Bijou, and Chartreuse Swizzle builds.
