Basil Hayden's Straight Bourbon Toast Small Batch Whiskey

Color: Both are light amber; Toast is a shade deeper.

Nose: Bourbon: peppermint, light pepper, citrus and honey. Toast: caramel, toasted oak, brown sugar and a hint of grain.

Palate: The original is light, spicy and gentle at 80 proof, the easiest high-rye bourbon there is. Toast swaps rye for brown rice and adds a toasted-barrel finish: sweeter, rounder, with caramel and warm bread notes.

Finish: Short and peppery on the original, medium and sweet on Toast.
