Alfred Schladerer Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser Black Forest
Alfred Schladerer Schwarzwälder Kirschwasser is a benchmark German cherry brandy produced in Staufen, at the edge of the Black Forest, where the Schladerer family has distilled fruit eaux-de-vie since 1844. Made from ripe, hand-picked Black Forest cherries that are fermented whole—pit and all—then twice-distilled in copper stills, Schladerer Kirsch is the reference point for authentic Kirschwasser and a staple of classic European pastry kitchens.
The nose is pure: fresh cherry, almond blossom, and the faintly nutty, marzipan-like note that comes from distilling with the pits intact. On the palate it's crystal-clear, dry, and intensely aromatic—stone fruit and almond run through a light, clean spirit with a long, fragrant finish that pulls back toward cherry skin and soft spice. At 80 proof, it drinks elegant rather than hot.
Serve Schladerer Kirsch well-chilled in a small tulip glass after a meal, or use it as a cooking essential—classic Black Forest cake, cheese fondue, and poached cherries all lean on Kirschwasser for their signature lift. A small pour goes a long way.
