Acre Largo Tequila Barrel Aged Blanco
Acre Largo Tequila Barrel Aged Blanco is a single-barrel, single-release tequila from NOM 1580, Hacienda El Olvido in Jesús María, Los Altos, Jalisco. The label reads Single Barrel Rested Tequila Blanco, and every bottle is individually numbered. The tequila rested for 59 days, right up to the legal limit for a blanco, in one barrel from Westward Whiskey, the Portland, Oregon maker of single malt American whiskey. That barrel previously held Westward's collaboration with James Beard award-winning baker Ken Forkish, made with his French sourdough levain in place of traditional yeast.
The agave comes from the estate, is cooked in brick ovens, milled with a roller mill, fermented in open-air stainless steel, and twice distilled. The barrel influence is subtle rather than heavy, so the agave stays bright and clean with a little something extra underneath. Expect cooked agave with light malt and vanilla on the nose, clean agave and citrus over a soft layer of oak on the palate, and a faint toasted-bread note that carries into a crisp, gently spiced finish.
With one barrel behind one release, this is a blanco pushed as far as a blanco can go, and a good pick for collectors of limited tequila and for anyone who likes whiskey-barrel crossovers.
